Abstract
Guided image filter (GIF) is proposed for manipulating the high dynamic range (HDR) image. In the conventional algorithm, it is used to divide an image into a base layer and a detail layer and then to multiply the detail layer by compression function for enhancing the detail information of the image. However, in most cases, an image displays the detail features and edge information of the objects in different scales. That is to say, all the detail features of the objects cannot be clearly reflected under a certain scale. The multi-scale decomposition utilizes more a scale extracts the edges and details of the image, the main idea is to filter the image through multi-scale decomposition to get a basic layer and several detail layers, which are respectively processed and synthesized at the output. In this paper, an GIF multi-scale decomposition for HDR image is introduced. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm has better edge preserving performance than the conventional algorithm.
