Abstract
This article aims to introduce and discuss the benefits of measuring the electrical signals of the heart (electrocardiogram - ECG) at high frequencies beyond the commonly used limits. The article shows the principles of high-frequency ECG (HFECG), particularly the capabilities of acquisition systems, compares the information benefits of high and low frequencies, discusses the measurement conditions and the new information content of high-frequency oscillations. Diagnostics are especially beneficial if they are followed by effective therapy. A specific example of high-frequency ECG measurement and analysis is linked to cardiac resynchronization therapy. It has been shown that HFECG can be used to select patients who will benefit from resynchronization, to select the optimal pacing technology and, finally, to perform optimal parameter setting.
