Abstract
The revision of the Approbationsordnung für Ärzte from June 27, 2002, which regulates the educational program at medical schools in Germany can give lecturers of epidemiology, medical biometry and medical informatics (called Q1 course) at medical faculties the opportunity to reflect on former teaching concepts and to consider new approaches to better motivate medical students during the mandatory course of Q1. Here we present our teaching experiences at three medical schools in Germany and provide some ideas how to improve the quality of teaching within these fields. We intend to further trigger the ongoing discussion about teaching concepts in epidemiology, biometry and medical informatics.
