Abstract
A biography of Beatrix Jones Farrand, one of America's foremost landscaper gardener, is presented. Born Beatrix Jones in 1872, she put down her emotional roots in Bar Harbor, Maine. Her father is Frederic Rhinelander Jones and her mother is Minnie Jones. She studied horticultural studies under Charles Sprague Sargent at Harvard University's Arnold Arboretum and married historian Max Farrand. She was noted both for her expert knowledge of plants and her talents in design.
