Abstract
The article focuses on the demise of cottaging, the practice of having gay sex in public toilets in Great Britain. During the 1960s, there was progress on gay rights issues resulting to a decline in public toilet usage. It notes that concerns over the spread of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) during the 1980s transformed casual sex from a blissful recreation into a potentially fatal indulgence. Under the Sexual Offences Act of 2003, sex in public toilets became illegal.
