Abstract
This document is a reply to comments made by Drs Hurley and Kearsley regarding a review on the implications of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists on peri-operative care. The authors agree that caution should be exercised when using gastric ultrasonography and that there is a threshold for an increased risk of regurgitation. They also discuss the differences between guidelines and guidance and suggest that patients with symptoms of delayed gastric emptying may need peri-operative gastric ultrasound before elective surgery. The authors emphasize the need for more data on the effect of GLP-1 receptor agonists on gastric emptying before creating guidelines. [Extracted from the article]
