Abstract
This article discusses the conservation of thresher sharks in South-west Aceh, Indonesia. Thresher sharks are highly migratory and their populations are vulnerable to overexploitation due to unregulated fisheries. Although their fins do not fetch a high price in the international shark fin market, thresher sharks are still caught and traded domestically in Indonesia. The article explores proposed interventions, such as temporal and spatial management, to protect thresher shark populations. It also emphasizes the importance of poverty alleviation and alternative livelihood options to reduce the dependence on threatened sharks in coastal communities. [Extracted from the article]
