Abstract
Fertilization, embryo quality and pregnancy rate are steps of the in vitro fertilization technique . In cases of severe oligospermia the only way to fertilize the oocyte is to perform intracytoplasmatic sperm injection. This method has it`s limitation due to the fact that the selection of the sperm for microinjection is made only by morphological criteria. The aim of this study is to determine that if using PICSI (picked spermatozoa for ICSI from HA - coated dishes), the pregnancy rate improves. The incidence of DNA fragmentation is higher in cases of severe oligospermia, so the embryos obtained using sperm with a high degree of DNA fragmentation will have a lower implantation potential. PICSI offers a new approach of and old technique, which allows a better and scientifical selection of a "good" sperm. The results of the study pleads in favor of using PICSI, the quality of the embryos obtained is better and the implantation rate is higher. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
