Abstract
This article, published in the journal Endoscopy, presents the findings of a retrospective cohort study that aimed to evaluate the risk factors associated with re-bleeding in patients with iron deficiency anemia or gastrointestinal bleeding from vascular lesions. The study included 79 patients observed between May 2022 and September 2023 in a dedicated practice for gastrointestinal bleeding. The results showed that the introduction of the dedicated practice significantly reduced the re-bleeding rate. Independent risk factors associated with re-bleeding included the need for endoscopic treatment, small bowel inflammatory lesions, and previous gastrointestinal bleeding. The study also found that the antithrombotic therapy edoxaban may be associated with a higher risk of gastrointestinal bleeding compared to rivaroxaban. The authors concluded that follow-up in a dedicated practice is the most important factor in reducing re-bleeding in these patients. [Extracted from the article]
