Abstract
The article discusses the importance of discovering that double chain small or large ribonucleic acid (RNA) molecules are able to regulate gene expression. Prior to research conducted on Caenorthabditis elegans in 1998, wherein the inhibition of protein expression was discovered and labeled RNA interference, it was believed that RNAs have only two broad functions. Studies concerned with genetic alteration in petunias found that both transgenes and plant genes have been suppressed.
