Abstract
INTRODUCTION Superior Mesenteric Artery Syndrome is an uncommon gastrointestinal disorder that describes the presenting signs and symptoms following compression of the third portion of the duodenum between the superior mesenteric neurovascular bundle and the aorta and vertebrae. CASE PRESENTATION We describe a case of superior mesenteric artery syndrome in a 20 year-old woman with diabetes mellitus type 1 whose symptoms were misattributed to diabetic complications. CONCLUSION Contrast-enhanced CT is useful in establishing the diagnosis of superior mesenteric artery syndrome. SMA syndrome often presents as a clinical diagnostic dilemma, and the syndrome may go undiagnosed for some time. Consideration of the patient's clinical symptoms, radiographic findings, and predisposing factors often lead to curative treatment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
