Abstract
The interaction and solidarity among neighbors found in a traditional society is rapidly being dismantled. The purpose of this study is to examine the environment of interior and exterior communal space in residential buildings as a place of interactions among neighborhood in multi-family housing, and based on them, to analyze the residents’ satisfaction of it. A field survey is conducted in respect of accessibility, connectivity, comfortability, utilization, territoriality, openness, maintainability in 10 common spaces and question survey is conducted to ask the satisfaction of communal space. The results are summarized as follows. When it comes to interior space, high-rise housing is spacious and well lighted. It also has an open view around the space. The satisfaction rate of the environment of communal space of interior space is considered relatively high as it gives a chance to meet neighborhood accidently. When it comes to exterior space, low-rise housing form the pedestrian flow clearly along the pedestrian lanes in that it exclude the through traffic in footpaths. As a result, the satisfaction rate of most exterior space is considered relatively high as it gives excellent accessibility and connectivity to communal space along with the continuous walking line focused on the footpaths.
