Abstract
(Int J Gynaecol Obstet. 2021;153:483–488. doi: 10.1002/ijgo.13446)Severe postpartum hemorrhage (SPPH; blood loss ≥1500 mL in the 24 h following labor) can have serious adverse maternal outcomes. Thus, earlier diagnosis and management of postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) (defined as ≥500 mL during labor or ≥1000 mL during cesarean delivery) is critical. Serum lactate has proven to more accurately predict severity and mortality and lead to better decision making, ultimately improving maternal outcomes. The aim of this study was to assess the relationship between serum lactate concentration at PPH diagnosis and SPPH.
