Abstract
The production of automotive parts requiring both high hardness and good shape-holdability is better realized by using hot stamping technology, comprising the heating in austenite region and the subsequent hot forming and quenching in a specially designed stamping tool. A new manufacturing technology of integral type door impact beam using hot stamping has been investigated in this study. Successful hot stamping for part integration of bracket part and pipe in the door impact beam has been realized by intruding the horizontally moving hydraulic punches into the notched ends of the steel pipe. Contact and temperature distributions, and phase transformation status during hot stamping have been analyzed using a software, DEFORM. An optimal cross-sectional shape of the pipe in the door impact beam, which has higher impact absorption energy has been derived from three point bending analysis using LS-Dyna. It was confirmed that Vickers hardness higher than 420 was obtained even in the hot-stamped door impact beam produced with the hot stamping dies without cooling channels inside the dies.
