Abstract
An automatic tool changer was developed to minimize cutting time and improve productivity. The automatictool changer consists of a tool magazine with dozens of tools installed and a cam box responsible for theautomatic tool change mechanism. The weights of dozens of tools and tool holders cause deformation in themagazine. A large contact force is generated at the roller gear cam inside the cam box owing to the camtrajectory; thus, it must be structurally stable. Because the cutting process can take a long time depending onthe cutting condition, the specifications of the motor are important to ensure the performance of the automatictool changer. In this study, the tool magazine of the automatic tool changer and cam box part based on theroller gear cam were analyzed through finite-element analysis. The shape of the magazine was optimized toincrease the rigidity by attaching a rib. In addition, a kinetodynamic analysis of the cam box was performed tocheck the torque and validate the selected motor.
