Abstract
A unidirectional anisotropy was observed below 180 K in Co/Cu discontinuous multilayers with designed layer thicknesses of 10 -2.2 Å. The loop shift is maximal, corresponding to a monolayer stacking of Co and Cu. The experimental results can be explained by exchange coupling between ferromagnetic Co and a certain antiferromagnet whose Neel temperature is 180 K.
