Abstract
Forest dynamics and regeneration have been monitored at three beech stands with different forest structure in the core area of Shirakami-Sanchi World Natural Heritage area. The monitoring has been conducted by the collaboration among researchers, local citizen, government and student volunteers for 22 years since 1999. In fiscal 2018, we continued the survey with updating equipment, renewing posts in monitoring sites, as well as a symposium and an event cerebrating 20 years of anniversary, expecting outreach effect of monitoring activities to the general public. Basal areas of the 3 plots all tended to increase, while the changes in population structure were different among the plots. Mast seedings occurred in 2018 and lots of seedling emerged in 2019. The seeding was second largest after 2000, though the amounts of seeds and seedlings were small in lower altitude. Several maintaining works necessary for further continuation of monitoring were conducted.
