Abstract
The Wildlife Conservation Society has helped train the local people of Gabon in conservation techniques and research at the Lope Reserve. Training involves studies in botony and animal censuses, and field research brings the workers in contact with gorillas, chimpanzees, and elephants. The project, started by the European Economic Community in 1992, is expected to lead to continued conservation of the reserve and surrounding areas.
