Abstract
The mechanism of dexamethasone-induced lung fibroblast proliferation was investigated in vitro using cultures of mouse and rat fibroblasts. Addition of dexamethasone induces the proliferation of these cells. This response is blocked with the use of a polyclonal antibody directed against the AB isoform of the platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF). Dexamethasone also upregulates the expression of the PDGF receptor. These results suggests that PDGF plays a role in the fibroblast proliferative response induced by dexamethasone.
