Abstract
Between October and November 2007 and during March 2008, two further phases of excavation took place at Swindon, Pipers Way, Wiltshire. The area 2 excavation exposed dense activity in the northern half of the area and the area 3 excavation traced the continuation of this northwards. This activity relates to a late-Iron Age to mid Roman settlement and is characterised by a network of irregular enclosures typical of the late Iron Age, succeeded by a more orderly layout of rectangular early Roman enclosures. All of these features were disturbed or truncated to varying degrees by modern landscaping. There was also evidence for a medieval settlement represented by at least two rectangular enclosures defined by ditches 2550/2, 2546/7 and 2473 aligned broadly on a north-south and east-west alignment.
