Abstract
The purpose of this study was to analyze the economic value of public policy and support project in dance field. This study proposed implications for the dance support policy by estimating the appropriate amount of support for the Culture and Arts Promotion Fund and the dance support project of culture and arts organization. For this purpose, this study attempted to calculate the intangible value of public policy and support project in dance field by using the contingent valuation method(CVM), which is a methodology to estimate the value of non market goods. 400 questionnaires were distributed to adults in their 20s and 60s, and a total of 368 sample were analyzed, excluding insincere and protest responses. The results showed that academic background, income experience, participation intention, and attitude had a significant effect on the respondents’ willingness to pay(WTP). In addition, the WTP for public policy and support in dance field was calculated as 18,167 won per person. Considering the number of economically active population in Korea, it was estimated to be about 512.4 billion won as a result of converting it into the annual economic value of public policy and support projects in the field of dance. Based on the results, this study could suggest the following implications. Firstly. considering the specificity and conditions of dance, appropriate economic calculation standards for creative activities in the field of dance, which are made up of public support, should be prepared. secondly, public policy and support projects in the dance field should be redirected to mid- to long-term support to create an environment with self-sustaining power and stability by helping the independence base of dance organizations or dancers. Thirdly, the government should push for the improvement of the implementation law and the tax system and the expansion of the dance group registration database so that policies and legal grounds that were designed to connect companies and arts can be more effective in the dance industry. Fourthly, the dance industry should continue its independent activities that show appropriate public value creation and social role faithfulness in public policy and support projects in dance field.
