Abstract
In this paper, we present an enhanced design of LC-DCO using a capacitive degeneration technique. Small signal analysis shows that by connecting a small resistance in shunt, a shrinking effect will appear for any capacitance value. Thus, significant reduction in frequency steps results. Simulated are realized in a 90 nm CMOS process from TSMC, the proposed capacitive-degeneration LC-DCO provides fine resolution between 3 and 16 kHz for frequencies applied between 1.2 and 3.5 GHz. According to the obtained features, Nano-satellite applications may be suitable target.
