Abstract
Thulium-doped magnesium molybdate crystal $(Tm: \text{MgMoO}_{4})$ was grown by the Czochralski method. It belongs to the monoclinic class (sp. gr. $C2/m)$. Its spectroscopic properties are studied. $\text{Tm}:\text{MgMoO}_{4}$ exhibits broad and smooth emission spectrum extending beyond $2\ \mu\mathrm{m}({{}^{3}\mathrm{F}}_{4}\rightarrow {{}^{3}\mathrm{H}}_{6}$ transition) and a long lifetime of the ${{}^{3}\mathrm{F}}_{4}$ state (1.90 ms) making it promising for broadly tunable and mode-locked lasers.
