Abstract
The wave-coaxial microwave unit for torch discharge excitation in the air is described. Results show that microwave discharge excitation in open air is determined basically by conductor fusion temperature: the higher temperature the higher input power. The conductors used are W (3380degC), Ta (3000degC), Mo (2620degC), Ni (1450degC), Cu, etc. Results also show that signal propagation in such single-conductor transmission line has particularly surface character and the main energy concentrates in the small area around conductor at the edge of metal-area boundary.
