Abstract
Conceptual design of a conduction-cooled MgB$_{2}$ magnet with an inner diameter of 360 mm and a center magnetic field of 1 T is presented. The magnet is designed as part of the magnet development activities to carry out the feasibility study and further, to demonstrate the applicability of the MgB$_{2}$ magnet in wide industrial applications which can be supported by the long-term operational data showing the robustness of the magnet. To achieve the goal of long-term robust magnet operation, mechanical design considering the react-and-wind conductor and design aspects of magnet stability and protection are considered. Due to the dry wound winding configuration, a detect-and-activate-heater technique is applied to the magnet as an active magnet protection.
