Abstract
Multimedia applications using personal computers (PC) are becoming more widespread. In the past, applications such as videoconferencing required the use of dedicated audio-visual equipment and transmission paths. By employing a PC as a multimedia platform, compressed data can be transferred between sites over a single transmission path. The quantity of data processed in high-quality real-time multimedia applications would overwhelm a single CPU system. Therefore, the need arises for an extra processor, or processors, to be incorporated in the PC. This paper describes a peripheral card for the PCl bus that integrates the Texas Instruments TMS320C80 multimedia video processor (MVP) into the PC system.
