Abstract
The treatment of three types of wastewaters-municipal, textile and tannery wastewater were demonstrated in double chambered microbial fuel cell (MFC) connected with salt-bridge that generated bioelectricity in MFC. Two types of electrodes were used in the MFCs: Zinc (Zn)-Copper (Cu) and Aluminum (Al)-Aluminum (Al). Here, the current, voltage, power, current density, power density, percentage of chemical oxygen demand (COD) and total dissolved solids (TDS) removal were measured. All three types of wastewaters successfully generated electricity while treated in MFCs. The results showed that the Zn-Cu electrode is more efficient than Al-electrode. Gram-Positive and Gram-Negative Bacteria were identified in MFC.
