Abstract
Objective:To investigate the efficacy and safety of the immediate analgesic effect of extracorporeal shock wave therapy on chronic non-specific lower back pain in athletes. Methods:Sixty athletes with chronic non-specific lower back pain were randomly divided into ESWT group(n=30)and control group(n=30),and given extracorpo-real shock wave therapy and magnetic vibration heat therapy, respectively.Extracorporeal shock wave therapy applied to the painful points of the lower back in athletes, treatment pressure was set to 1.8-2.5 bar, frequency 8.0-10.0 Hz,and shock 2000 times. The visual analogue score of pain(VAS)was applied to evaluate low back pain in both groups of athletes before treatment, after treatment, and at 7:00 a.m.on the following day, respectively. Results:In the ESWT group, the athletes'VAS scores decreased in the immediate post-treatment period and decreased in the following day, while in the control group, the VAS scores only decreased in the immediate post-treatment period, and there was a significant difference between the two groups immediately after the treatment(P<0.05),and the ESWT group had better VAS scores than the control group the next day after treatment(P<0.05).Conclusions:Extracorporeal shock waves provide immediate relief of non-specific lower back pain in athletes, and the therapeutic effect can be sustained over time.
