Abstract
Abstract. We analyze the possibility of inversion generation and XUV amplification in a recombining scheme by various charged ions inside homogeneous clusters and discuss the conditions necessary for an efficient inversion generation in relation to the cluster density, the pulse duration and wavelength of the exciting laser pulse including the influence of the Coulomb explosion. We show that a high gain of G < 10[sup 3] cm[sup -1] for a wavelength of lambda[sub R] is approximately equal to 200 Angstrom in a time less than or is approximately equal to ps can be expected. The measurable gain G[sub real] depends on the cluster density N[sub cl]. For N[sub cl] Is approximately equal to 10[sup 16] cm[sup -3] we expect G[sub real] less than or is approximately equal to 20 cm[sup -1]. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
