Abstract
The authors reflect on the mechanisms underlying atrial fibrillation development related to chronic endurance training in athletes with reference to a study conducted by E. Guash and colleagues. They discuss the experiments performed on rats which found that 16 weeks treadmill training regimen in rats corresponds roughly to about 10 years of exercise training in humans. They also talk about the other related studies on modification of intercellular calcium handling through endurance training.
