Abstract
Syndactyly in cattle (OMIA000963-9913), also known as mulefoot, is a recessive condition described in several breeds including Holstein, Angus, Brown Swiss, Chianina and Simmental, in which two digits are fused on one or more hooves.1 Whereas the condition is not considered lethal, affected cattle display difficulty walking,2,3 which poses a welfare issue. Sanger sequencing confirmed that the syndactyly-affected Droughtmaster calf and its parents were homozygous wt for I LRP4 i c.4940C>T, whereas the control calf was homozygous mutant and both parents of the control calf were heterozygous (Fig. [Extracted from the article]
