Abstract
The article presents a summary of the consensus that emerged from the Sixth PRIMAFAMED workshop on capacity building and primary care research held in Pretoria, South Africa from June 22-24, 2015. The workshop considered the strengths and weaknesses of primary care research. Strengths include the increasing support for research activities and training programmes. Weaknesses include low research capability, high inertia in the system and lack of innovation in types of research.
