Abstract
This document, published in the journal Clinical Autonomic Research, explores the relationship between a specific gene polymorphism (rs1801253) and cardiac sympathetic modulation as assessed by spectral analysis of heart rate variability (HRV). The study involved 241 healthy volunteers and found that carriers of the Gly/Gly genotype in the ADRB1 gene had an imbalance in sympathetic and parasympathetic activity, which could potentially increase the risk for cardiovascular diseases. The study suggests that this gene polymorphism may be a plausible explanation for the contribution of genetics to HRV in healthy individuals. However, the study has limitations, such as a relatively small sample size and the analysis being limited to supine rest conditions. [Extracted from the article]
