The article focuses on how darkness is used in the stage productions of playwright Samuel Beckett's short plays. Topics discussed include the different ways darkness is employed in contemporary performances, the ways in which a theatrical production's physical environment affects the performance and the audience's perception and the ways in which sensory reactions to darkness provide a better understanding of the aural, visual and spatial elements of Beckett's works.
