Abstract
The article focuses on a study to assess patients with cardiovascular disease undergoing moderate/high risk non-cardiac surgery has become a significant part of cardiology practice in recent years. Good communication between cardiologist, anesthetist, and surgeon is necessary if this is to be done well. An increasing body of evidence now guides practice especially with respect to the use of peri-operative β blockade. Achieving adequate β blockade for major vascular surgery has been reported to reduce operative risk by as much as 90%, and there is evidence that stopping already established β blockers at the time of surgery significantly increases risk. Despite this, researchers were aware that routine use of β blockers in this setting is not yet standard.
