Abstract
The article discusses the mineral nanostructures of clay rocks. It indicates the studies of nanomaterials and nanotechnology which shown that the properties for the particles comprising solid bodies below a certain level can substantially change as the size decreases. It notes that nanomaterials have several types including nanocrystals and nanoclusters, nanoparticles and nanodisperse solutions or colloids. It states that nanostructure implies the spatial organization of the rock's matter composed of nanostructural elements if it is applied to rocks. It further explains that clay rocks containing nanoparticles and nonclay minerals like iron oxides are typical representatives of natural nanomaterials with inherent nanostructures.
