Abstract
A 60-year-old Caucasian male was referred for surgical consultation for an 8-year known cystic lesion of the spleen. Follow-up magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the abdomen showed that the lesion was located at the inferior splenic pole, and had increased in size compared to the previous scan (from 7.5 cm × 7 cm × 7 cm to 9.5 cm × 9.8 cm × 9 cm) (Fig. Computed tomography scan showing the enlarged splenic cyst (c, d, axial view) with high-density content (52 HU) (d, axial view). gl One month later, while waiting for planned surgery, the patient attended the emergency department for sudden onset of abdominal pain.
