Abstract
Heart failure (HF) with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) accounts for half of all patients with HF, confers substantial morbidity and mortality, but has no effective therapy to improve outcomes. This is mainly due to incomplete understanding of its pathological mechanisms. The pathophysiological mechanisms of HFpEF are of great heterogeneity and diversity, in which cardiac structure and function dysfunction, systemic inflammation, and energy metabolism are all involved. The lack of appropriate standard HFpEF animal models also hampered the mechanism exploration and drug development. This review summarizes the current knowledge regarding the pathophysiology and the preclinical animal models for HFpEF. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
