Abstract
한국언론은 통일을 어떻게 보고 있을까? 이 연구는 국민들의 통일 관련 여론형성에 핵심적인 역할을 하는 통일보도의 경향을 정권별(김대중, 노무현, 이명박, 박근혜), 미디어 유형별[신문(진보, 보수), 방송(지상파, 종합편성채널)]로 검증해 냄으로써 우리나라의 통일보도를 비판적으로 평가하고, 개선방향을 모색해 보고자 하였다. 본 연구의 핵심적 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 통일보도 주제의 경우 남한정책 23%, 북핵 17%, 국제관계/협력 9%로 나타났다. 그러나 통일을 위한 구체적 실천과 준비과정을 다룬 기사는 10% 정도로 적은 편이었다. 둘째, 통일보도의 프레임을 살펴본 결과 일화중심적 프레임이 62%로 많은 편이었다. 주제중심적 프레임은 34%로 적었다. 셋째, 정부의 통일정책에 대한 논조를 살펴본 결과 중립 60%, 부정 21%, 긍정 19% 순으로 나타났다. 아울러 대부분의 연구 결과에서 정권별, 언론사별 통일보도에는 의미있는 차이가 나타났다. 본 연구는 이러한 연구 결과를 바탕으로 우리나라의 통일보도의 문제점을 도출하고, 이를 개선하기 위한 실천적인 제언을 수행하였다.
The purpose of this study is to critically evaluate how the Korean Press representthe unification of South and North Korea and to constructively suggest animprovement measure, by examining tendencies of unification coverage anddifferences in accordance with each regime, media type(conservative/progressivenewspaper, terrestrial broadcasting, and general programming channel), andpress. Findings are as follows. First of all, the salient themes of coverage are thepolicy of South Korea(23%), North Korea’s nuclear issue(17%), and internationalrelationship/cooperation(9%). However, this study shows that it has been coveredonly about 10% of concrete preparations and practices for unification, which wasless than expectation. Secondly, it is showed that the main coverage frame of theKorean Press is episodic frame(62%), and after that it is thematic frame(34%). Lastly, this study illustrates that the tone of the report is made up of neutral(60%),negative(21%), and positive(19%) in the order of frequency. In most of the results,it is confirmed that there are meaningful differences of unification coverage by each regime, type of media, and press over all.
