Abstract
The purpose of this study is to consider the musical expressional characteristics of exterior form on various opera houses which is the most intimate connection with the music. The components of musical expressional characteristics are made up of structural elements as rhythm as well as decorative elements that are composed of Timbre and Tone. The most fundamental elements of music is rhythm which focused on the same role as architectural form. The rhythm is composed of three deciding factors, they are ‘beat’, ‘speed’ and ‘accent’. Firstly ‘beat’ that represents the symbolic trend including ‘pulse’, ‘overlay’, and ‘pattern’, secondly ‘speed’ that represents abstract trend including ‘change’ and ‘unity’, lastly ‘accent’ that represents representation trend including ‘proportion’, ‘emphasis’ and ‘contrast’ as analysis items. The decorative elements as another musical expressional characteristics components are not only composed of color as a ‘timbre’ including twelve colors represents the hybrid trend and three colors represents interaction trend but also materials as a ‘tone’ including low-tech trend’s six kinds of different exterior materials and nine colors represents high-tech trend. Additionally case studies of opera houses are analyzed by the locations and scales.
