Abstract
One fibre can transmit a combination of a number of optical wavelengths called DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing). With the use of laser technology, the bandwidth of current fibre-optic backbones can be increased. It makes it possible for fibre optic networks to simultaneously transmit signals of various wavelengths. Mux/Demux are two integral elements of a DWDM system. In this paper, data will be transmitted and received serially using combinational logics such as multiplexer and decoder (de-mux). Both multiplexer and decoder will be implemented using 2 separate Verilog files. One more Verilog file will be created to cover up the multiplexer as a transmitter and decoder as a receiver to configure a serial communication system. For the synchronisation purpose, the counter is associated with the circuit. This hybrid design methodology will help in managing design complexity, allowing parallel development and promoting reliability of communication.
