Abstract
The integration and control of renewable energy systems represent critical issues, especially at applications with wide range of voltage levels, multiple sources integration, and different grid connections (AC and DC). This paper presents a new common ground power converter structure for photovoltaic (PV) integration with universal single-phase AC/DC microgrids. In addition, model predictive control (MPC) is applied for controlling the proposed topology at both AC and DC microgrid connections. The proposed topology represents a reduced component structure due to the use of a single power converter circuit. Moreover, the proposed MPC method achieves fast response with controlling multiple objectives using a single objective function. Simulation results are provided in this paper with various connection types, various current stepping, DC-link voltage changes, and reactive power support.
