Abstract
It is not the first decade of archaeological research is the Eski-Kermen. However, scientists usually only pay attention to material culture, virtually ignoring religious complexes. For example, the appearance of temples in the South Gate and is now considered an indicator of the decline of traditional Byzantine fortress architecture. The only explanation for this situation are the traditions of Soviet archaeological school. The aim of our research is both proper description and introduction to the scientific revolution of the monastery complex at the South Gate of Eski-Kermen, and attract the attention of researchers to study the problem of early medieval religious buildings of the «cave towns».
