Abstract
Highlights •Cu2+ proved 14–16 times more toxic effect to T. obliquus than Zn2+ after 96 h.•In mixed culture, T. obliquus enhanced its adsorption capacity for Zn2+ and Cu2+.•T. obliquus exhibited 60.60 % higher adsorption capacity for Cu2 than for Zn2+.•The Extended Langmuir model explained Cu and Zn competitive adsorption.
