Highlights •A highly fault-tolerant thrust estimation method is designed for gas turbines.•The proposed method integrates three modules as virtual thrust sensors.•Feature-level dissimilarity design is proposed to ensure high fault tolerance.•A novel feature selection strategy is designed to implement this design.•Three highly dissimilar feature sets with low failure risk are constructed.
