Abstract
Highlights •Four distinct artificial infection methods for GCRV infection were established.•Each method resulted in a similar mortality rate of approximately 80 % in grass carp.•The patterns of viral replication were consistent across all infection methods.•All methods led to significant pathological alterations in liver and intestine.•The choice of optimal infection method should be tailored to specific conditions.
