Abstract
The article looks at a funerary complex in Vulci, Italy, known as the Tomb of the Silver Hands. It was discovered in 2012 by a team of archaeologists led by Carlo Casi, who believes that it belonged to a noble Etruscan family. Particular focus is given to a pair of silver hands with gold-plated fingernails found at the site. According to Casi, they were once part of a sphyrelaton, a wooden figure used to guard the soul of the deceased. Gender in Etruscan society is also discussed.
