Abstract
Students' understanding of the scientific method as applied to the study of human history is enhanced by participation in volunteer archaeology field work. An overview of three archaeology field expeditions held in three southeastern states and how they incorporated ten important principles of good practice into the service-learning projects—intention, planning, orientation, clarity, authenticity, monitoring, reflection, evaluation, recognition, and continuous improvement—is provided.
