Abstract
Ganja at the very beginning of the XVII century was intensively developed and filled with buildings and structures of a wide typological palette, both independent (detached) and in complex structures. The huge flow of funds within the Safavid Empire (1501-1736) tempered the megalomaniacal desires of the rulers, which led to creation of large-scale plans and their practical implementation. The urbanization policy has proven to be quite effective on the example of the central square in Ganja, which development included construction of monumental buildings by the outstanding architect Sheikh Bahā' al-Dīn, resulting in a wonderful ensemble (religious buildings complex, caravanserai, hamam).
