Abstract
The article reports that more people are abandoning traditional Christian funeral practices in German-speaking regions in Europe like Germany and Austria. Topics covered include decision of many people to choose cremation and nature burials over traditional Christian practices, role in the financial crises facing Christian cemeteries in Germany and the document issued by the Austrian Bishops' Conference decrying anonymous funerals, nature burials and practices which compromised human dignity.
